A New Chapter for Midnight Storm Studios: Transitioning from Unity to Godot
A New Chapter for Midnight Storm Studios: Transitioning from Unity to Godot
Dear Midnight Storm Studios Community,
We hope this message finds you well. Today, we have some important news to share regarding the development of our beloved games, "Beacon" and "Swords of Lyon A'pol."
The Unity Fallout
As many of you may already know, Unity Technologies recently announced significant changes to their terms of service and pricing model, effective January 1, 2024. These changes introduce a new Unity Runtime Fee based on game installs, affecting many developers, including us. Read more about Unity's changes here.
What This Means for Us
The new Unity policies have forced us to make a difficult decision: we are transitioning away from Unity and adopting the Godot game engine for our future development. While we were able to salvage our scripts, which amount to about 20,000 lines of code, this change effectively resets our progress on "Beacon" and "Swords of Lyon A'pol" back to square one.
Moving Forward
We understand that this news may be disappointing, but we assure you that this decision was made with the long-term success of our games and community in mind. We are committed to delivering the quality and experience you've come to expect from Midnight Storm Studios.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
Best Regards,
The Midnight Storm Studios Team
